Chilli


Chilli
What: Seedling (Floriana Birdseye Thai Chilli).
Where: Large square self watering planter.
When: Mar 2009 (?).

Sown in: Top 100mm of Yates Premium Seed Raising Potting Mix, rest Yates Regular Potting Mix.
Fertiliser: Thin layer of RICHGROW: Organic Blood and Bone + Trace Elements & Sulphate of Potash 100mm below surface. Weekly application of YATES: Multi-Nutrient Plant Food with Seaweed at 5ml/L.

Advertised Germination: Seedling
Actual Germination: Seedling

Advertised Maturity: Not shown.
Actual Maturity: 8 weeks and ongoing.

A series of light infestation with Aphids mainly on the very young leaves and flowers leading to lots of curled leaves and bent chillies.

Sprayed with MULTICROP: Pyrethrum + Garlic Insect Spray on the 20th June 2009.

One of several strings of chilli that's come off this plant so far although those that are remaining are considerably smaller than the first few batches.


Last Chilli snipped off and plant dumped on 1st August 2009.


THE NEXT GENERATION

Chilli
What: Seed (From seeds collected from largest chilli).
Where: 1 x 1.5L Soda Container - Open and 1 x 1.5L Soda Container - Closed.
When: 4 August.

Sown in: Re-used Seed Raising Potting Mix.
Fertiliser: Thin layer of Blood and Bone 100mm below surface.

Advertised Germination: Unknown (1st generation removed from purchsed seedling).
Actual Germination: 14 days.

Advertised Maturity: Unknown
Actual Maturity: 18 Weeks.

So far so good although it's easy to see that I need to turn this pot a bit more often!

Despite a frightful visit from 'the curly death' it looks like there will be at least a few chillies on the horizon.

This isn't much to show for this plant but it was more than I was expecting given the aphid problems that it had. There was also some type of beetle larvae sucking on the roots when I pulled the plant out!
